~Historical Speech Project~
The historical speech project is the major project of the third quarter, and while the primary focus is on improving synthesis skills through targeted research (much like the synthesis question and sources on the AP Exam), this project will involve all of your skills you've developed and improved this year. An ability to complete effective rhetorical analysis will contribute to analyzing the text of one's speech for their presentation, as well as the impact and overall effectiveness for both the presentation and one's outline. Argumentation ability will directly relate to your performance on your essay outline, as three out of five categories ("Introduction","Quality of Evidence","Connection to Thesis") on the rubric are related to your ability to create and support an argument effectively. This project also encourages interdisciplinary development, as speeches were selected for their appearance on prior AP United States History exams, as well as their overall historical significance.
The presentation component of this project will utilize SMART Notebook, a professional-grade presentation tool designed with educational application in mind. The use of differentiated mediums for visual presentations will contribute to understanding of a variety of technologies, as well as giving students new ways to effectively convey information.
